SDÜ Faculty of Medicine Hosted the Director General of Health Information Systems of the T.C. Ministry of Health

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Mahir Ülgü, Director General of Health Information Systems of the T.C. Ministry of Health, was at our Faculty as part of our 3rd International/6th National Health Services Congress (INHSC2024).

Meeting with our academics, students, information systems personnel, and participants, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ülgü gave a presentation titled "Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare: Opportunities and Threats".

In his presentation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ülgü also provided information about the activities of the Directorate General of Health Information Systems and particularly shared his experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Emphasizing that the level our country has reached in terms of digital health and its applications serves as an example for other countries and international organizations, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ülgü said, "... but we should not be satisfied with this; we should continue our development by adding to what we have done".

In the question-and-answer session of his presentation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ülgü spoke about his life story and career development and expressed his happiness at being in Süleyman Demirel University, his pride in advancing our current cooperation further, and especially his joy at meeting young medical students, saying, "I thank those who invited me here very much".

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ülgü's presentation was followed with great interest by our students.

As is known, the responsibilities and authorities of the Directorate General of Health Information Systems are as follows: "To conduct studies to determine nationwide policies, strategies, and standards related to information systems and communication technologies used in the healthcare field, to conduct and commission personal health data and all kinds of information systems and projects involving data and information flow related to the national level health status and health services, to monitor international developments in health information systems and technologies, share country practices and experiences, establish international cooperation when necessary, to determine rules for public and private legal entities and real persons who will work in the field of health informatics and technology, implement them, and when necessary, make decisions about the appropriateness of their software and products and authorize their creators, and to perform similar duties given by the Minister of Health".

In this context, our Faculty will continue to comprehensively address digital health and artificial intelligence in medicine in both pre-graduation medical education and post-graduation specialty education, encourage our students and residents, organize training programs for them, and bring them together with known names in the field.
