Forensic Medicine
Our Department was established in 2002. There are still two professors and one doctor lecturer in the teaching staff of our department. Twelve forensic medicine specialists have been trained until 2021, and twelve forensic medicine residency students are still continuing their education. In addition to "Medical Specialization Training", our Department offers "Forensic Medicine" courses to the fifth grade students of the Faculty of Medicine, the fifth grade of the Faculty of Dentistry, the fourth grade of the Faculty of Law, and the second grade students of the Vocational School of Justice, and "Health Law" to the third grade students of the Faculty of Law courses, as well as “Deontology-Medical Ethics” courses for the second year students of the Faculty of Medicine and the first year students of the Faculty of Dentistry. Apart from the educational activities, the applications of the courts and public prosecutors of the metropolitan cities such as Istanbul and Ankara, especially Isparta, Antalya, Afyonkarahisar, Burdur, Konya and its districts, as well as the applications of public and private institutions, and the applications of real persons or their proxies, with the Article 67 of the Criminal Procedure Law and the Civil Procedure Law. In individual applications within the scope of Article 293, special consultancy and special expert committee report - expert opinion in the fields of forensic medicine and forensic sciences are given. OUR ETHICAL PRINCIPLES IN OUR CONSULTING AND EVIDENCE-BASED EXPERTISE SERVICES; 1- Approaching the patient (the applicant) in terms of his/her physical, mental and social health, 2- Protecting the privacy of the patient (applicant case) (his private information is not disclosed unless he asks for it), 3- Enlightening the patient (applicant case) (informing him/her sufficiently, both medically and forensically), 4- No action is taken without obtaining the patient's (applicant's) consent/consent, 5- Observing ISTANBUL CONVENTION approaches in cases of violence against women and domestic-partner violence 6- The patient's (applicant case) has priority over science and society, and the protection of the benefit-harm balance in special cases, 7- Providing forensic medicine services equally and fairly to everyone, 8- Approaching the patient (applicant case) with honesty/truthfulness, 9- Scientific objectivity and impartiality. STUDY AREAS OF OUR DEPARTMENT - Preparation of reports with examination and/or file review in injuries - Malpractice evaluation - Forensic examination and autopsy - Evaluation of cause of death, mechanism and other issues related to death - Criminal responsibility assessment - Guardianship - Power of Attorney - Evaluation of legal responsibility - Age Determination - Disability Calculations - Genital - physical - mental examination and evaluation in cases of alleged sexual assault/abuse - Document examination in forgery of signatures and letters (comparison-identification of the texts and signatures on the documents subject to examination, such as checks-promissory notes-contracts, etc.) - Evaluation of drug / stimulant - addictive substance use CAPACITY AND FACILITIES Our department has a polyclinic room, archive, autopsy room, autopsy report room, assistant room, meeting - education - social activity room. RESEARCH ASSİSTANT TRAINING PROCESS The training period for research assistants is four years. In a part of this training period, rotation training is taken in the branches of pathology, psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry. Seminar and scientific publication training and case discussion - board meeting are held every Tuesday and Thursday. |
