SDÜ Faculty of Medicine: "Ceramic Wheel Experience Workshop" — A Moment Where Medicine Meets Art

Süleyman Demirel University (SDÜ) has taken on a pioneering mission in the field of Ceramics and Composite Materials under the "Specialized Universities Project in Priority Areas" initiative led by Turkey's Higher Education Council (YÖK). Within this framework, and as part of the 2nd Project and Science Days events organized by the SDÜ Faculty of Medicine, a Ceramic Wheel Experience Workshop was held for medical students.

With the motto "If Medicine is an Art, Why Not Ceramics?", the workshop was held on May 7, 2025 Wednesday throughout the day in the lobby area of the Faculty of Medicine classrooms. The event was moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serap Ünal, Director of the Ceramic Research and Application Center, and Research Assistant Ayşe Melike Bircan, while students developed their manual skills on the ceramic wheel and unleashed their creativity.

The workshop aimed to support not only the technical and scientific aspects of medical education but also an artistic perspective. Students experienced both stress relief and hand-eye coordination development during the ceramic shaping process. The event reinforced a multidisciplinary educational approach by allowing future physicians to engage in creative production in close contact with art.
Such innovative events organized in accordance with SDÜ's vision of specialization in priority areas will continue to contribute to students' personal and professional development.
