Our Faculty Members and Students Shed Light on the History of Medicine

The Lake Region, one of the unique areas of our country, has hosted many cultures and civilizations throughout history.

The Burdur Archaeological Museum is one of the most important places where the remnants and artifacts from these cultures and civilizations that have come down to us today are displayed and preserved.

In accordance with the authorization procedures of the Turkish Republic Ministry of Culture and Tourism, our faculty members and students, as part of the scientific research and publication approval obtained by our Department of Medical History and Ethics, conducted a technical examination visit to Burdur Museum.

During the visit, the artifacts in the museum's inventory, each of which has been the subject of valuable publications, were examined.

With this study, artifacts from the category of surgical instruments and materials will be evaluated in light of contemporary medical knowledge, and the information obtained will be shared as publications and catalogs with both the scientific world and the public.

The technical examination tour was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. İsa SÖZEN from the Department of General Surgery, Assistant Professor Gülşah USTA SOFU from the Department of Ophthalmology, Assistant Professor Fuat İNCE from the Department of Medical History and Ethics, and our students Serra Beyoğlu, Cemre Kotan, Efekan Özer, and Hamza Gavcar from the Medical History-Museum Project Group.

We thank Museum Director Mr. Murat KALEAĞASIOĞLU and Museum Specialist Mr. Uğur BİÇER, as well as all personnel of Burdur Museum for their interest and scientific collaboration.

We believe that the initiated work will be successfully completed with the participation of our other faculty members and will contribute valuable artifacts to world medical and cultural history.
