December 5th Women's Rights Day: An Inspiring Presentation from the Future Physicians

A meaningful event was held at Suleyman Demirel University Faculty of Medicine on December 5th, Women's Rights Day. Medical resident Dr. Asiye Karataş from the General Surgery rotation group presented her speech titled "Women Physicians of the Republican Era" to her peers and faculty members.

In the presentation, pioneering women physicians of the Republican era, such as Dr. Safiye Ali, Dr. Pakize Tarzi, and Prof. Dr. Türkan Akyol, who played a pioneering role in shaping modern medicine in Turkey, were discussed in detail. The struggle of women for the right to education, their professional determination, and the values they brought to the medical field were conveyed in a way that would inspire young physician candidates.

The event created a sharing environment that strengthened the social awareness of our students and increased their professional motivation. At the end of the presentation, the following words spoken by Res. Dr. Asiye Karataş resonated greatly in the hall:

"If we can study medicine today, if we can wear our white coat with pride, if we are not afraid to enter the operating room; this is because of the bold steps taken by Safiye Ali, Pakize Tarzi, Türkan Akyol, and many more Republican women whose names I cannot mention. With gratitude to Atatürk, we are working to move further forward following in their footsteps."

As the Faculty of Medicine, we once again emphasize that we are proud of all our students who embody the values of our Republic, advance in the light of science, and are passionately committed to their profession.
