More than a year ago, when some students' unusually high exam scores drew attention, our examination system was subjected to multiple detailed reviews; technical investigations conducted did not identify any systemic breach. Despite finding no systemic problems, our Decanate activated a series of additional security measures beginning with the start of the relevant academic year, and all examinations have been conducted meticulously under these precautions.
Certain suspicious activities detected during examination administration were promptly reported to our Rectorate; the matter was transferred by our Rectorate to the Chief Prosecutor's Office on April 16, 2026. From that date forward, the criminal investigation was conducted in full coordination with the Isparta Provincial Police Directorate; the allegations were thoroughly investigated in all aspects through University-Police cooperation.
It was determined that the current situation arose from the misuse of authorization rights by a faculty member who had access rights to the examination preparation process and questions for the year's examinations, that the measures taken prevented similar breaches of examination security in other examinations, but nevertheless; following the detection by police units that in the end-of-year theoretical examination conducted on June 25, 2026, the relevant faculty member had included questions he himself prepared and transmitted these questions to one or more students, detention procedures were applied to the faculty member concerned and certain students, and the judicial process was initiated.
Following evaluations conducted with the Police Directorate and our Rectorate, it was concluded that because it could not be definitively established whether access to the questions in question remained limited only to the students for whom measures were taken, the reliability of the measurement and assessment had been compromised; in order to protect equal opportunity among our students, the Faculty Management Board decided to cancel the examination in question.
The process was transparently communicated to our students at every stage. In place of the cancelled examination, the makeup examination conducted on July 3, 2026, was completed without incident under high-level security measures in coordination with our Decanate and Rectorate, as in our other examinations. Throughout this process, all necessary academic and administrative support has been and will continue to be provided to ensure none of our students suffer any disadvantage.
The judicial process is ongoing and, in parallel with it, administrative and disciplinary proceedings conducted independently of the judicial investigation have also been initiated. As the Faculty of Medicine Decanate, we are closely following both processes. With the presumption of innocence preserved, we respectfully announce to the public that we will monitor the full application of legal sanctions as provided by law against anyone whose responsibility is established as a result of both processes, without any distinction of title or status; and that we will not compromise under any circumstances on the principles of academic integrity, merit, and examination security.
