HISTORY

Süleyman Demirel University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Basic Medical Sciences, Department of Physiology was established on July 17, 1993. Prof. Dr. Sadettin ÇALIŞKAN started to work as a primary faculty member and Head of the Department on 07.03.1994. Prof. Dr. Halis KÖYLÜ, Prof. Dr. Ahmet KOYU, Prof. Dr. M. Fehmi ÖZGÜNER, Assoc. Dr. Nurhan GÜMRAL, Assoc. Dr. Mustafa SAYGIN served as the head of the department respectively. Currently, Prof. Dr. Nurhan GÜMRAL continues to serve as the head of the department.  Our Department has trained 3 physiology specialists, 10 doctors of science and 8 science specialists. There are currently 4 faculty members, 6 research assistants, 10 doctoral and 11 graduate students in our department.

LOCATION and CAPACITY

Our Department is located in the dean's office building of the Faculty of Medicine. There are 3 research laboratories in our department: General Physiology Student Laboratory, Bioanalysis, Electrophysiology and Bioelectromagnetics Research Laboratory and Learning-Memory Laboratory.

EDUCATION and TEACHING

License

By our Department;

Faculty of Medicine (Grade II)

Faculty of Dentistry (Grade II)

Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Midwifery (Grade I)

Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing (Grade I)

Theoretical and practical courses of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department (Grade I) students of Faculty of Health Sciences are carried out.

Postgraduate

In our department, master's (2.5 years in total, 1.5 years of which 1.5 years is course period and one year is thesis period), doctorate (4 years) and medical specialization (3/4 years) education is provided. In necessary cases (according to the undergraduate or graduate education programs they have completed), students are provided with a Scientific Preparatory Program before they start their graduate program courses in our department. Postgraduate master's and doctorate education is carried out according to the principles specified in the directive of the Institute of Health Sciences, and Medical Specialization education is carried out according to the principles specified in the Turkish Physiological Sciences Association and the Regulation on Medical Specialization Education. The education of graduate students is supported by weekly seminars and article presentations in addition to the courses in their respective programs.
