Histology and Embryology

History

Histology and Embryology Department was founded in 1996 by Prof. Dr. Erdal KARAÖZ. Currently there are 5 faculty members and 6 research assistants in our department. Our department has graduated 4 Medical Specialists, 9 Doctorate and 14 Master's degrees students so far.

Location and Capacity

In addition to the rooms used by the faculty members in our department, there is a Routine Research Laboratory, a Cell and Tissue Culture Laboratory, a Fluorescent and Research Photomicroscope Dark Room and a Student Laboratory.

Research Assistant Training Process

In our department, Master's degree (2 years), Doctorate (4 years) and Specialization in Medicine (4 years) education is given.

Students take department courses and related non-departmental courses for Master's degree 1 year and for Doctorate 2 years and then carry out their thesis studies. Postgraduate education is carried out according to the principles specified in the Regulation of the Institute of Health Sciences.

Medical residency students take field courses for two and a half years within the framework of the rules determined by the Histology and Embryology Society, the Regulation on Specialization Training in Medicine and Dentistry and the Board of Specialization in Medicine, and complete their thesis studies and rotations in the last one and a half years. Medical residency students are assigned outside the institution to receive Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) training at the Assisted Reproductive Technology Center (ARTC) that has a qualification as training center.

Training of assistants is reinforced with seminars and article presentations held every monday. In addition, the assistants also attend the laboratory courses of Histology and Embryology given in the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Dentistry.

Within the framework of the Erasmus/Socrates Programme, there are agreements for the exchange of research assistants with Poland (University of Lublin), Germany (University of Leipzig) and Bulgaria (Universities of Sofia and Varna). Outside the scope of Erasmus, faculty members and research assistants have visited countries such as France and the USA for periods ranging from 3 months to 1 year, both within the scope of their own opportunities and projects supported by TÜBİTAK.
